Obituary
ERVIN F. LEIGHTON Ervin F. Leighton, 84, died Jan. 30 at the Plummer Hospital, Dexter, following a brief illness. He was born in Garland Sept. 27, 1873, the son of John L. and Rosanna Leavitt Leighton. He came to Silver's Mills 64 years ago and had lived there ever since, most of this time in the home he last occupied. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Crosby Funeral Home Dexter, the Rev. Walter B. Wakeman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducting the services. Bearers were Willis W. Jackson, Otis J. Roberts, Sr., Harold M. Farrar and Charles E. Grant. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, in the spring. Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Ada Wedgewood, of Bangor; three cousins, Miss Alice Young, Mrs. Carrie Morrison and Mrs. Florence Crocker, all of Dexter. During his early years he worked in a saw mill at Silver's Mills, following which he carried on his small farm, worked in his wood lots, conducted an apiary, an occupation that he thoroughly enjoyed; and in his well-equipped machine shop he served a large area doing repair work of all kinds in a most skillful and dependable manner. His friends were legion and he could never do enough for them. Any one who did him a favor or made him a gift was quickly rewarded in more than full measure. He loved the outdoor life, taking great pleasure in fishing and hunting. He was fortnate in being able to follow these pursuits in a moderate degree to the day he became ill, Jan. 13.
