Obituary
FRED 0. ADDITON 1855 - 1929 The many Dexter friends of Fred O. Additon, for many years prominent in civic affairs and a valued member of the Dexter finance board, were shocked to learn of his death late Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 27th, at is home on Pine street. Mr. Additon had been in his usual health until Sunday, when he was taken with a severe cold. He continued his duties until Tuesday night when he became suddenly worse. A physician was called and was there several times during the night. Wednesday morning his condition became critical and he kept sinking until the end. In the passing of Mr. Additon Dexter loses a man who has always held the high esteem of all, and one who was always sincere in his endeavors and who lived up to his convictions at all times. Fred O. Additon was born in Dexter, Dec. 12, 1855, the son of Thomas O. and Maloney McIntire Additon. He received his education in the Dexter public schools and in 1877 was married to Miss Zelma McKechnie. They passed the greater part of their married life on the farm home, where Mr. Additon was born, later purchasing the Morrison farm, so called, one of the finest farm homes in this section and resided there until August when they sold to W. A. Small and purchased their present village home on Pine street. Mr. Additon has served the town in various capacities including several terms as selectman, on the school board, water board, constable for 25 years and for several years has been a most efficient and earnest member of the finance committee. He was a member of Penobscot Lodge, F. and A. M., Wassookeag Chapter, O. E. S., and Dexter Grange. Besides his wife, Mrs. Zelma Additon, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Louise Ellms and Mrs. Florence Hoyt, both of Dexter and one brother, Chas. Additon, also of Dexter. The family have the deep sympathy of the entire community. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. W. H. Dunham officiating. The bearers were George Hall, W. E. Brewster, S. L. Small, Peter S. Plouff, N. C. Bucknam and P. A. Hasty. (The Eastern Gazette 12-5-1929, p.5) Fred 0.
