Obituary
MRS. ARTHUR JACKSON Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Dexter Methodist Church for Mrs. D. Myrtie Swanton Jackson, 78, widow of Arthur Jackson, who died Monday, Sept. 23, at the Plummer Memorial Hospital after an illness of five weeks. The Rev. Howard E. Benson officiated. Bearers were: Homer Wilbur, Ralph McKusick, Norman Quimby and George Safford, all of Dexter. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. She was born in Dexter, May 15, 1879 daughter of Seth J. and Drusilla Coakley Swanton. She received her education in the Dexter schools, was graduated from the high school and attended Farmington Normal School. A teacher for 42 years, she retired with pension in 1940. Mrs. Jackson taught at various times in Sangerville, Garland, Greenville, Presque Isle and Milbridge and for many years was teacher of the sub-primary class at Pleasant Street School, Dexter. She was a member of Milbridge Chapt. 0. E. S., a former Pythian Sister, a member of Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge of Dexter, Dexter Grange, the Methodist Church and a past president of the WSCS of that church. She is survived by a brother, Eugene Swanton of Dexter, several nieces and nephews. Members of the Rebekahs attended in a group.
