Obituary
DEXTER - Geraldine Velda Giles passed away peacefully surrounded by love on April 5, 2025 at the age of 88. Geri leaves behind a legacy of resilience and creativity that will be deeply missed. She was born on July 11, 1936 to Sanford Worth Estabrook and Louise Ellen Mithee Estabrook. Geri found joy in anything creative. She learned to sew from her father while her mother taught her to crochet, sew and cook. They also taught her to use the things you make. Don't pack them away. Give them purpose. She carried on their memories through her creative endeavors including many beautiful clothes, quilts, embroidered linens, elegant handkerchiefs, scrapbook cards, countless dolls, tote bags and dishcloths. She never kept them, handling them out to visitors and her family. She especially loved spending time with friends and family among her many plants and ongoing crafting projects. She was most proud of her 10 children and marveled at their many gifts and how different they were from each other. She once noted that she could see her parents in each of her children; her mom's strength and determination and her father's love of the woods and working with his hands. Geri spent many years as a caretaker both in the Dexter Nursing Ho me and through Home Health Care Agencies. Geri's legacy is strengthened by her 10 children, Veronica Burke (Lyndon), Sanford Giles (Lisa Simonds), Timothy Giles (Cathie), Deborah Tibbetts, Jeffrey Giles (Sandra Ruiz), Laurie Gardner Faloon (Nathan), Marlene Giles, 29 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She enjoyed a special friendship with Sarah Wells and Judy McNaughton. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Mabel Estabrook, her son, Johnathan Giles, a grandson Luke Burke and son in laws, James Baird and Galen Tibbets. A graveside service will be held at the Corinna Village Cemetery in Corinna, Maine on April 26th at 10 AM, followed by a private family gathering at Sanford Giles' home in Garland.
