Obituary
Dexter - Roger Stanley Fanjoy Sr., passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2025, at the age of 86, with his family by his side. A beloved husband and family man, he will be remembered for his devotion to loved ones, kindness to friends, and gentle nature with everyone. Affectionately known as "Tank," "Grampie," and "Poppie," he was born in Dexter on January 18, 1939, the oldest of two sons of Stanley and Winnifred Fanjoy. He often told stories of growing up with his brother, Keith, and roaming the neighborhood to get a ball game going with all of their friends, which was apparently successful on an almost daily basis. After graduating from Dexter High School in 1958, Roger married Bertha Pelkie in 1960, and together they raised three sons and a daughter. He spent most of his working life as a machinist at FayScott, Inc. in Dexter, and after retirement he also spent time working at A.E Robinson's convenience store and Reny's. He imparted a strong work ethic, honesty and integrity at all times. His family often had to (happily) schedule get-togethers on Saturdays, because as he would plainly state, "I work Sundays at Reny's," and he was not the type to ask for any scheduling favors. Roger was a well read man, and as he neared retirement he began collecting books and curated an impressive library of important and interesting works until he had so many he was afraid that his bookshelves would crash through his bedroom floor to the living room below. So, being an outdoorsman and excellent marksman, he then took up target shooting as a hobby. Of course he then built an extensive and impressive gun library as well, but by that time all the children were out of the house, so he had three empty rooms in which to spread everything out. Roger is survived and will be sorely missed by his children, Mike and wife, Brenda, of Holton, Michigan, Roger Jr. of Dexter, Terri Farquhar and husband, Bill, of Hampden, and Rob and wife, Holly, of Hampden. He also adored his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Bertha; and brother, Keith, who always called his older brother "Bubby." A graveside service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, will be announced later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, his family would ask that any donations be made in his name to Eastern Area Agency on Aging, eaaa.com. Arrangements by Crosby-Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport.
