DEXTER - James E. McDaniel of Dexter, Maine and Brooksville, Florida went home to be with his Lord on December 20, 2024, at the VA hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was born on March 21, 1935, in Fincastle, Virginia, son of Elmer and Clara (Stanley) McDaniel. Jim enlisted in the USMC in 1952. When he was in Quantico, Virginia he met his wife, Elaine Easler and were married for 66 years. Jim served in Korea and Vietnam where he received several distinguished awards including National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the Purple Heart. He retired from the Marine Corp in 1972. Upon his retirement he moved to Dexter, Maine where he was employed with SAD 46 as a custodian and bus driver. He also owned Dexter Exxon Station. Jim was active with the Boy Scouts while in the service and in Dexter, Maine. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Dexter where he had served as President several times. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. So many memories of camping with them. When his youngest grandchild, Jacoby, came over they would head to the garage and tinker on anything he could tear apart. He loved attending as many sports events that his grandchildren were in. He looked forward to ATVing with his friends and family when he returned to Maine in the summer. Jim and his wife enjoyed taking cruises together and with friends. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Easler) McDaniel of Dexter and Brooksville, FL., 2 sons, Donald and his wife Sudan McDaniel of Corinna, Stephen McDaniel and Misty Carson of Dexter; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Judy McDaniel Synan of Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Clara McDaniel, 1 brother, Jerry McDaniel and 3 sisters, Louise McDaniel Tolley, Inez McDaniel Meadows and Elsie McDaniel Roberts. A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2025.
