Obituary
Sangerville - Wilson G. Nuite, 84, died January 10, 2025, in Bangor, after a brief medical event with family at his side. He was born November 17, 1940, in Dexter, ME, the third son of Doran and Katherine (Wingate) Nuite. Wilson grew up on the family farm preferring work with trucks and tractors rather than animals. He graduated from Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford, class of 1959. While in high school he drove a truck for Charles Starbird and a school bus his senior year. For many years he worked for Haley Construction hauling readi-mix concrete. He spent his retirement years managing his fields and woodland. Wilson bought his Caterpillar backhoe (CAT) in 1990. He used that around his neighborhood to help with various projects, often free of charge. Rejuvenating the Gilman Cemetery in South Sangerville was one of his most satisfying accomplishments. Wilson enjoyed bluegrass music, community meals, history books, vegetable gardening, chocolate cake, riding his bike, keeping his equipment in top condition, and talking with friends on his porch. He believed in hard work, honesty, character, practicality, and kindness. He was a devoted brother and uncle to his family. Wilson was predeceased by his parents; uncle, Erroll Nuite and wife, Nathalie; and brothers, Bradley and Graham Nuite, of Sangerville. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Lockwood and husband, David, of Dover-Foxcroft; sister-in-law, Sally Nuite of Sangerville; nephews, Lewis and wife, Loretta, of Atkinson, George, Blaine and wife, Janet, Warren, and Barrett Nuite, all of Sangerville, and Brian Lockwood of NC; nieces, Brenda Nuite and husband, Jay, of WI, Melynn Nuite of MA, Maradee Nuite Jacoby and husband, Jim, of WI, Amanda Maddocks and husband, Fred, of Dover-Foxcroft; nearly thirty grand and great grand nieces and nephews; and many friends including, Dick Panciera, Jim Nicholas, and special friend, Andria Leonard. A memorial gathering at South Sangerville Grange and burial at Bailey Cemetery will be planned for spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Sangerville Grange, c/o Barbara Hatch, 4 Silvers Mills Rd., Dexter, ME 04930. Wilson's family sends special thanks and gratitude to the staff, nurses, and doctors at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center ICU, who treated him with such skill and respect.
