Obituary
Corinna - Dr. Neal H. Watson, 98, of Corinna, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 15, 2024. Neal was born October 1, 1926, in Scarborough, Ontario to Miller H. and Blanche (Shaw) Watson. After graduating from Guelph University and working throughout Canada for the Canadian Veterinarian Service, Neal and his wife, Viola, emigrated to Maine in 1951 and settled in Dexter where they farmed and raised their five children. Neal visited small and large farms throughout central Maine providing medical care as both a large and small animal vet and knew every country road, farm and crop grown throughout the surrounding counties. In his later years, Neal transferred to USDA and served as a federal veterinarian for the Food Safety and Inspection Service, where he continued well into his 80's. He also served as track vet for the State of Maine Harness Racing program at various fairgrounds throughout the state until just a little over a decade ago. On retiring from veterinarian work in his late 80's, he often enjoyed trips to farms up in the County to deliver veterinarian care with fellow Veterinarian Dr. Simon Alexander. He always stayed involved with farming and right up until present, maintained a flock of registered Corriedale sheep at his current farm in Corinna. He loved to watch his animals grazing in the pastures. They were his pride and joy and what he lived for. He shared his knowledge and love of livestock with many and was a 4-H leader for area youth interested in raising and showing beef and sheep at the local fairs. Like his father before him, he also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Scottish Rites. Neal was predeceased by an infant son, Norman; his wife, Viola; and one grandson, Mitchel Watson. He is survived by his daughter, Susan; son, John; daughter, Laura; sons, David and Millar Watson; eleven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held next spring following a public notice in local newspapers. To send flowers to the family of Neal Watson, please visit Tribute Store. Published on November 23, 2024
