Obituary
Dexter - James "Jim" E. Bell Sr., passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on October 12, 1944, in Dover-Foxcroft, Jim was the beloved son of the late Donald and Dorothy Bell. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1963 and went on to work for 40 years as a dedicated supervisor at Dexter Shoe Company. In his retirement years he continued to work at Cove Side, Sedomocha, and the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union. Jim grew up on Bear Hill Road in Dover-Foxcroft, where he built lifelong memories. It was at the Crystal Ballroom in Dover where he met the love of his life, Olivia Burgoyne. The two were married for 58 wonderful years, raising their family together in Dexter. In addition to his loving wife, Olivia, Jim is survived by his sons, James Bell Jr. and his wife, Holly, and Stephen Bell and his wife, Lorrie; along with five grandchildren: Devyn Shorey (Andrew), Jordyn Marrone (Ryan), Kamden Bell, Jessica Bell, Jeremy Bell, and bonus granddaughter, Luanne Willey. He was a proud great-grandfather to Quinn Olivia Shorey and Millie James Marrone. Jim also leaves behind his sister, Susan Russotti; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss his warm presence and unwavering kindness. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Bell; and sisters, Louise Dulac and Sally Brumm. A man with a heart as big as his laugh, Jim was a fixture in the local community. He made friends easily and touched the lives of many, whether through coaching his sons in Little League, cheering from the stands at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, or proudly supporting his son Jim Jr.'s drumming career. Jim had an infectious passion for life. He loved the outdoors, spending time camping and cruising (with Aruba being his favorite destination). He also enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, bowling, dining out for breakfast (with no onions), and taking his cat, Jake, for walks around the yard. A celebration of Jim's life will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the VFW Hall, Cedar Street, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute, 33 Whiting Hill Rd., Brewer, ME 04412, a cause close to his heart. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at laryfuneralhome.com. To plant a tree in memory of James E.
