Obituary
HAMPDEN – Michael Lawrence Haskell, age 78, of Hampden, Maine, passed away peacefully at his home on November 4, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 25, 1946, in Dexter, Maine, Mike was the son of the late Althea Sands Goulette and William A. Haskell, Sr. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Linwood Dore. Mike was married for 55 years to his loving wife, Darlene (Dore) Haskell, who was by his side throughout his battle. Together, they raised two sons, Jason and Matthew Haskell. Mike's world revolved around his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He cherished the time spent with his granddaughters, Emma and Gracyn, as well as his grandson, Alex, and took great pride in watching them grow, spending quality time together, and creating memories they will cherish forever. A graduate of Dexter High School, Mike went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1973. For 35 years, he served as an educator, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of students. His dedication to teaching and coaching enriched many lives. In his later years, Mike had the joy of coaching basketball alongside his son, Matt. Together, they shared the special experience of coaching Emma and watching her play the sport they all loved. Mike also enjoyed going on adventures with his son Jason and grandson Alex-whether it was camping on the Allagash or walking into the backyard and down to camp in the middle of a snowstorm. A lover of the outdoors, Mike found peace and joy in nature. He often spent hours walking through the woods, paddling a canoe, or searching for sea glass with Darlene along the beach. He had a special bond with his dog Scout, whom he trained and hunted with for many years. Mike is survived by his wife, Darlene; son Matthew Haskell and wife Stacey of Hampden, Maine, and their daughters Emma and Gracyn; son Jason Haskell and partner Teta Jungels, her son Bryan, and Jason's son, Alexander (Huff-Haskell) Puckette and husband Jimmy, of Brunswick, Maine. He is also survived by his siblings, Peter Haskell and wife Barbie of Dexter, Maine; William Haskell and wife Arlene of Wells, Maine; Cherie and husband Allen Laferriere of Saco, Maine; and Priscilla Haskell of St. Louis, Missouri. He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of special friends. Mike is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ellen Dore of Hartland, Maine, and sister-in-law, Brenda Badger and her husband Keith of Hartland, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harmony Steeple Fund, P.O. Box 5, Harmony, Maine 04942. A time of visiting will be held from 1-2 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Harmony with Pastor Robert Young officiating. A time of refreshment will follow in the church fellowship hall - all are welcome. A private committal will be held by the family at Sugar Hill Cemetery. Mike was most comfortable in casual clothes, so the family invites everyone to dress casually for the services.
