Obituary
Linda Ann DuBois Ronco, 75, of Willow, Alaska departed this world on November 2023, in Anchorage, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Dexter, Maine, at Plummer Memorial Hospital, Linda was the cherished daughter of Emile and Dorothy (Nutter) DuBois. Linda graduated from Brownville Junction High School in 1966, embarking on a journey filled with love, laughter, and adventure. She was briefly employed at Guilford Industries, but it was on the snowy slopes of Abbott Mountain that Linda was introduced by her husband's cousin, Christopher Snowden, to her lifelong partner of 55 years Bernard Ronco. Though Linda's skiing skills left much to be desired (often finding herself more on her nose than on her skis), she managed to capture Bernard's heart. Following the birth of their children, Linda devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, becoming a mother but also a member of the Somerset County Extension, Ripley Craft Class, and did some daycare for some local families. As the children grew older, she worked at several local companies, including DeLong's Sportswear in Harmony and the Dexter Shoe Company. The family also spent a few years living in North Anson and running a dairy farm. In her spare time, Linda found joy in supporting her husband's passion for dog mushing where she served as the unofficial "whoopie pie maker" for their friends and fellow enthusiasts. In the summer of 2002, Linda and Bernie moved from their longtime home in Maine to Alaska. Grandchildren were calling to them and a new job prospect on the horizon with Davide, her son-in-law. She helped Davide start several psychiatric practices in Anchorage and the Valley, working for Bridges Counseling Connection until her retirement in 2021. Linda's hands were often busy, tending to her garden, creating quilts, or making treats in the kitchen. Her home in Willow, Alaska, was a place filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of freshly baked rabbit and pumpkin pies-a place where the grandchildren gathered on weekends and holidays. She also was a member of the Palmer and Willow Quilt Guilds and for several years volunteered at the booth at the Alaska State Fair. Linda's love knew no bounds, extending to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she wished she could have seen more often. She is survived by her loving husband Bernard, son Brian of Dexter, Maine, and daughter Theresa Ronco and son-in-law Davide James of Anchorage, Alaska. Her grandchildren, Laurel and her husband Nick Foster of Calais, Maine, Karmen "Ally" James and Ian James of Portland, Oregon, Quinten, Evangeline "Rhys", and Amelia "AJ" James of Anchorage, Alaska, and her great-grandchildren Wesley and Vivian Foster of Calais, Maine. She is also survived by her siblings Andrew DuBois of Jackman, George DuBois and his wife Cathy of Milo and Shawna McCue and her husband, John of Augusta, Maine, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Linda was predeceased by her parents Emile and Dorothy DuBois, infant brother Richard, and sister-in-law Carleen DuBois. Linda's willingness to try new things, especially in her later years, whether sampling exotic cuisines or going on last-minute adventures, showed she embraced life with an open heart and a curious mind. Linda found tremendous joy in her visits to Hawaii, a place that held a special corner in her heart. The warmth of the sun, the fragrance of tropical flowers, and the sound of waves crashing on the shore brought her much happiness. She often spoke fondly of her time spent on the islands, dreaming of returning one day to soak in the beauty once more. Despite her gentle demeanor, Linda had a competitive streak that often surprised her grandchildren. None of them expected Grandma to dominate a game of cornhole like she did! Her accuracy made her family champion. Another amusing memory of Grandma was her burning of pancakes. She was often teased by the grandkids, but her response generally was silence, followed by her well-known stink eye. Our family will hold these fond memories close to us and miss our matriarch and family historian dearly. Her funeral service will be held on August 3, 2024, at 10 am at the Lawn Cemetery in Guilford, Maine. A celebration of life will follow for family and friends at the Craft Café, 4 N. Main St, Guilford. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
