Obituary	Fannie L Crosby Mrs. Fannie L. Crosby, widow of the late J. Willis Crosby, died in Dexter, July 10th, 1944, following a long period of failing health. She was in her eighty-fourth year. Mrs. Crosby was born in Sangerville October 5, 1860, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Drake) Dearth. She was educated in the Sangerville schools, attended Foxcroft Academy, and was graduated from Dexter High school in the class of 1881. She was a teacher in the Dexter schools until her marriage on August 14, 1884, to J. Willis Crosby who predeceased her in 1940. For many years she was prominent in community activities having been one of the early presidents of the Woman's Literary club, and a charter member of the local D. A. R. Chapter. April, 18, 1940 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the General Federation of Women's clubs, Mrs. Crosby was one of the three members awarded a medal by the Dexter Womans' Literary club for outstanding work and length of service in the Club. At that time she had been of member of the Club for fifty-six years. For forty years she was organist at the First Congregational Church of which she was a valued member and one of the leaders in its good works. Throughtout her long life she maintained an active interest in her town and its affairs, and was universally respected for her ability, cheerfulness and genuinely Christian character. Mrs. Crosby is survived by a brother, Elmer H. Dearth of Des Moines, Iowa; by her son, Clarence H. Crosby, and by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the residence on Zion's Hill, Wednesday afternoon, at two p.m., the Rev. Gordon Chilson Reardon officiating. Bearers were Millard G. Otto, W. Marvin Salisbury, Glen C. Ayer, Allard D. Packard, Charles S. Brewster, and David Crosby. Internment was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dexter.
