Obituary	DEXTER - Urgel "Tony" Pomerleau, 83, passed away December 23, 2022 at home with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Tony was born March 25, 1939 in Saint Come Liniere, Quebec, Canada, a son of Odilon and Laura (Simoneau) Pomerleau. He was born the 11th of 13 children, two of which died in infancy. Tony first came to Maine at the young age of 17 to work with his father in the wood camps at Katahdin Iron Works. He obtained a work visa in 1959, at age 20, and moved to Maine full time to work in the woods. He never returned to live in Canada. In one of his proudest moments, in 1993, Tony became a naturalized American citizen. Civic pride was important to Tony. He took voting very seriously and never missed a chance to vote. He was a lifelong Catholic Church communicant and contributor. He was a past member and president of the Dexter Jaycees. Tony was a man of many talents: woodsman, truck driver, mechanic, carpenter, plumber and electrician. He established Dexter Tire which he operated with his wife Cheryl for ten years. He sold Dexter Tire and ran a thrift store business called The Family Attic for eight years with his wife and daughter Monique. One of his greatest talents was his ability to fix things. Neighbors, friends and family relied on his skills to keep things going. Tony was good at many things but his greatest passion and love for the woods was what made him happiest. For many years he enjoyed hunting and fishing at the camp he built on Moosehead Lake at Northeast Cary. Urgel is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cheryl (Conner) of Dexter. His son, David Pomerleau and wife Nicale and family live in Sangerville. His daughter, Monique Johnston and husband Kevin and son live in Sebec. His youngest daughter, Jennifer-Jo Martin and husband Glenn and family live in Brunswick. He is also survived by a sister, Lucille and husband Marc of Quebec City, and a special nephew, Simon Brochu of Quebec. He had 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Urgel was predeceased by brothers Bernardin of Saint Come, Quebec, Herman of Skowhegan, Fernando and Victorien of Hartland and Marc of Wellington; his sisters Lilianne, Laurette and Evangeline, all of Saint Come, and Rosella Landry of Saint Zacharie, all of Quebec, Canada; and a special nephew Paul Pomerleau of Sangerville. Urgel's generosity touched many lives and all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.
