Obituary
Corinna - Kenneth Harold Veazie, 91, died in the home he was born in on November 3, 2022, which was his father's birthday. He was born on May 23, 1931, the son of the late Harold and Christine (Simpson) Veazie. Ken was a 1949 graduate of Corinna Union Academy where he excelled in athletics. He was well known for his basketball play, averaging 22 points per game, and once had a game high of 47 points. His name is on the High School Basketball Tournament Hall of Fame. After graduation, Ken worked for Wirthmore Feeds in Corinna, then started his farming career at his home. His initial herd consisted of 11 Holsteins which grew over the years to more than 1,000 head of cattle. In 1952 Ken married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Goulette of Dexter, and they had five children. As the family grew, so did the farm. In 1963, the farm had outgrown his homeplace, so he purchased the Fred Ray Farm abutting his farm land. Ken won many awards for conservation, the Outstanding Young Farmer Award and the Progressive Breeder Award. After his two sons joined the farm, they were voted the Maine Dairy Family of the Year. Ken served as President and Secretary Director of the Pine Tree Holstein Association, President of the Penobscot County Farm Bureau and was a member of the Planning Board and the Town Budget Committee for the Town of Corinna. He served as chairman of the ASC Committee and was on the Agrimark Board of Directors. He was a delegate to the National Holstein Association annual meeting, which was held in many cities across the country. He was also a member of Dexter Club for many years. The farm was well known for its breeding achievements. Over the years, Ken has sold frozen embryos and bulls internationally to farms in England, Japan, and Holland. The farm was the breeder of Veazland Marion, the #1 bull in the world for seven years. They also bred Veazland-R B Star Tabby who became two-time Reserve All American and three-time Reserve All-Canadian. Ken also had time for his children. He coached his sons' basketball teams and won many championships. He got all of his children involved in 4-H. They showed their registered Holsteins at fairs across the state and won many awards. All five children were chosen to exhibit their animals at Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA, where they had had several first-place winners. Ken and Ginny spent winters at their home in Haines City, FL. Ken became a shuffleboard enthusiast and won many trophies. He was always anxious to come home in the spring and get back on a tractor to help out on the farm. He loved cooking on the grill with his "Meat Heads" and spending summers at his camp on Ripley Pond. Ken is survived by three daughters, Kathy and husband, Greg Joy, of New Gloucester, Patty Pelletier of Missoula, MT, and Sharon and husband, Steve Towle of Dexter; and two sons, Rick and wife, Margaret, of Dexter, and Rob and wife, Kelly, of Corinna. He was Poppy/Gramp to 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Keith; and many relatives and friends including Earl Hartley who was his best friend from kindergarten. A graveside committal service will be held on Saturday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at the family lot, Morse's Corner Cemetery in Corinna. A reception will follow at Millenium in Newport. Dress will be casual and guests are asked to wear any Veazland Farms apparel they have. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Anah Shriners, 1404 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401. Messages of condolence may be left at crosbyneal.com.
