Obituary
Dexter - William A. Keyte, 94, peacefully passed away November 29, 2022, at a local hospital following a long and full life. He was born September 22, 1928, in Dexter, a son of Frederick and Claire (Russell) Keyte. He graduated from Dexter High School, Class of 1947. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter. Bill worked most of his life in construction and later was the Dexter Public Works Director for 25 years before retiring in 1992. After his retirement he drove school bus for the Dexter School system for a number of years. Bill was a lifelong sports enthusiast who excelled at baseball, football and basketball in school. He played minor league baseball for a season before deciding to stay close to his growing family. He was inducted into the Dexter Regional High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. He especially enjoyed following the Dexter sports teams throughout the years and would be seen at most home field hockey, baseball, softball, soccer and basketball games and as many away games as he could. Once he could no longer physically attend the games, he enjoyed watching through streaming, or as he said "that thing you can do with the computer." He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fly fishing, hunting and camping. He will be remembered for standing at the bridge in Dexter, feverishly casting his line. He enjoyed tying his own fishing flies. Bill had a wicked sense of humor and loved to pass on the latest joke to anyone he could. One of his favorite days was April 1st. He pulled some amazing April fool's jokes on his kids and grandkids. His humor will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his brother, Peter Keyte and wife, Anne, of Florida; his son, Michael and wife, Robyn; daughters, Sharon Ready and husband, Stephen, Susan Arsenault, Sandra Daigle, all of Dexter, and Sally Giles of Corinth. He was a Grampy to 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Viola (Clukey) Keyte; and brothers John Keyte and David Keyte; and his sister, Margaret (Keyte) Seavey. A funeral service outside of mass will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 5, at St. Anne's Church, Dexter, with Deacon David Denbow officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make a donation to the William A. Keyte TIN fund, (a fund for Tigers in Need) for the DRHS students to help with their sports equipment needs. Please send donations to: DRHS, 12 Abbott Hill Road, Dexter, ME 04930, Attention: TIN FUND.
