Obituary
Sangerville - Richard "Dick" Mitchell, 84, of South Sangerville passed away at sunset on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Hibbard's Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He spent his final days surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends, including the incredible team of caring nurses, hospice caregivers, and attendants who walked the journey with him. Born on a farm in Dover-Foxcroft, Richard was the son of the late Clinton and Margaret (Brown) Mitchell, one of the youngest of eight surviving children. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1956. His heart was firmly planted in the farming life, and he lived in the rhythm of the seasons and the great outdoors. A homebuilder and instructor at the Dexter Regional Vocational Center for 26 years, he had a strong positive influence on the high school students he mentored in the building trade. Richard also served as a Sangerville Town Selectman for several years. He was "Mr. Fix-It", hard-working with a great heart and a physical strength that belied his size. He believed in doing things right - measure twice, cut once. He loved teaching, whistling while he worked, pulling pranks, camping, working his homestead, and sharing the great outdoors with his friends and family. He was a good Samaritan. Richard is survived by Dianne (Conner) Mitchell, his special loving wife of 61 years; son, Loren Mitchell of Montross, VA; daughter, Tracy Lussier and husband, Richard Lussier, of Groveland, MA; grandsons, Jacques Lussier and James Lussier, who he greatly loved; and one sister, Evelyn Cookson of Dover-Foxcroft; along with a large extended family and neighborhood community. He shared a lifelong friendship and many adventures with Myles "Bud" and Maxine Lemieux of Sangerville, and Ralph and Linda Palmer of Abbot. It is noteworthy that Alzheimer's struck seven of Richard's brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Jackman Corner, Sangerville, with the Rev. Jerett Olson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Richard's name to Pine Tree Hospice, 883 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. (http://pinetreehospice.org/).
