Obituary
RIPLEY - Lawrence "Bill" Joseph Alton passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022 with his family by his side. He fought bravely against cancer, but the good Lord called him home long before we were ready. Bill was born on October 20, 1956 in Hartland, Maine. He grew up and lived his entire life in Ripley. Somewhere along the way, he was given a nickname and it stuck - those who met him knew him as Bill. He stated working in the woods at a very young age and made a career of being a lumberjack. He felt as though he had never worked a day in his life because he was so passionate about cutting wood. He also worked in Dexter Shoe for several years, but landed back in the woods in 1998, working out of state on the natural gas pipelines, which he retired from in 2018. H loved his girls very much. Bill was happiest when he found out he would be welcoming a grandson into his life. He loved being a Grampy and cherished the time fishing with Evan. Bill loved his dog, Razz - and Razz stuck by him until the end. Bill enjoyed being in nature and doing anything outside. He loved birds, flowers and gardening. His favorite hobby was doing art. He is survived by his loving wife and life partner Dianne Brown; daughters Katie Allen and Brandi Alton and her husband, Regan; his one and only grandson, Evan Allen; brother, Timothy Alton; and his beloved dog and best friend, Razz. He was predeceased by his mother, Marie Alton and several special aunts and uncles. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Per his wishes, there will be no services. A private family gathering will be held to spread his ashes. A celebration of life will be held on September 17, 2022 at Ripley School from 12-3. Please bring a side dish or dessert for a BBQ.
