Obituary
DEXTER AND WESTFIELD, MA - Joan Elizabeth (Clukey) Clukey, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on July 13, 2022. Joan was born on May 10, 1944, in Dexter, and was the oldest child to Raymond Thomas Clukey and Florence "Flossie" Elizabeth (Frautten) Clukey. Joan grew up on the Trotting Park Road in Dexter, where she excelled in school, attending Girls' State and graduating from Dexter High School. She received a full scholarship to Beal Business School. She continued to excel academically completing Beal's two-year program in one year. Upon graduation Joan was selected for a position at WABI in Bangor. She married her high school sweetheart, Doug Clukey at Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter, on October 26, 1963. The couple made their home in Connecticut. Joan worked for WTIC in Hartford in an administrative position and later accepted a position at Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT. After retirement Joan and her husband moved to Winter Haven, Florida but she still spent her summers at the couple's camp, Summer Haven, on Lake Wassookeag. Joan is survived by two daughters, Julie (Clukey) and husband, Paul Giaconne, and Nicole (Clukey) Moret; Joan's grandchildren, Douglas, J'aime, EmmaMarie and Matthew; 2 brothers, Russell "Rusty" Clukey and Robert "Bobby" Clukey; and sister, Carmen "Carmy" Nelson. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in memory of Joan at Saint Anne's Catholic Church on July 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. with a burial service following at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Her daughters request that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society at nationalmssociety.org. Joan will be remembered as sitting on the front porch of their camp, Summer Haven in Dexter, next to the love of her life, Doug, looking out over Lake Wassookeag.
