CARMEL AND DEXTER - Peter J. "P.J." Nicholas Jr., 39, passed away unexpectedly at his home January 16, 2022. He was born September 19, 1982, in Dover-Foxcroft to Peter "Jim" J. Nicholas Sr. and Holly (Carson) Nicholas. In addition to his parents, Peter is survived by his wife, Mary E. (Tibbetts) Nicholas; son, Preston; daughter, Aria; special dogs, Nikky and Willow; half sister, Melodie Hamilton and husband, Robert, of Brewer; special uncle, Jonathan Nicholas of Lakeworth, FL; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Viola Richards of Dexter; and maternal grandparents, Merrill and Mildred (Sawtelle) Carson of Corinna. He graduated Dexter High School in 2000, and went on to study machine tool at Eastern Maine Technical College graduating in 2002. He started his career as an intern at General Electric and then went on to work at Cianbro and Hardwood Products before returning to General Electric, where he spent the last 14 years. He made many great friends throughout his career and kept in touch with his high school friends who he had many great adventures with. Peter was a loving and devoted father who shared his passion for the outdoors and anything motorized with his children. He spent his spare time at their camp in Sangerville teaching them how to ride, hunt, fish, and run a tractor. He was an avid hunter and cherished that special time with his father. Peter also enjoyed camping with his friends and vacationing to Florida. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was someone his family and friends could count on. A celebration of Peter's life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Palmyra Community Center. Graveside services at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
