RIPLEY- Richard W. Leavitt, 69, died February 1, 2013, at his home in Ripley, following a long illness. He was born October 17, 1943, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Towle) Leavitt. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany on the Berlin Wall and was honorably discharged with a partial disability. Following the service he worked for several of the local mills, and then in 1973 he became totally disabled. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and was a life member of the DAV. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Brasier)Leavitt of Ripley; a daughter, Melissa Olander and her husband, Erik of Casco; a son, Christopher Leavitt of Dexter; and a daughter, Amy Young and her husband, David of Ripley; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Leavitt, Makayla Raymond, and Jennifer Young; 3 sisters, Christine and Lorraine Leavitt, both of Dexter, Sharon and her husband, Marshall Jernigan of Winterport; a brother, Larry Leavitt; and a sister-in-law, Glenice Leavitt of Garland; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Robert and Terry; and a sister, Elaine Leavitt. A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 4 PM, Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Ripley United Methodist Church. Spring burial will be in the Ferndale Cemetery in Ripley.
