ROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Vera M. Wentworth, 101, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Tangerine Cove in Brooksville. She was born Dec. 19, 1906, in Ripley, Maine, daughter of Fred and Bertha (Hoyt) Haseltine. She was educated at Hartland Academy and Farmington State Normal School in Maine and later earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education at New Britain Teachers College in New Britain, Conn. Mrs. Wentworth taught in public schools in Ripley, Dexter, and Dixmont, all in Maine, Gloucester, Mass., Warner Robins, Ga., South China and East Vassalboro, Maine, and Southington, Conn., before retiring in 1976. She taught for 49 years. Mrs. Wentworth was a member of Ripley Methodist Church and was also a member of the Ladies Aid for 62 years and was a life member of National Education Association. After retiring, Vera, at 70, volunteered her services as a pianist at seven schools in Southington playing for all occasions. She was predeceased by her son, William "Billy" Felker; a stepson, Earl Wentworth; by her first husband, Neil Felker and by her second husband, Harold Wentworth; a grandson, Donald Felker; two brothers, Linwood "Tim" Haseltine and John Haseltine; and two sisters, Aletha Heminway and Mary Dore. She is survived by her children, Joanne Skidmore of Bushnell and Ronald Felker of East Greenwich, R.I.; six grandchildren, Douglas Felker of California, Ronna Cabral, Michelle Mann, Michael Felker, Cindy Wentworth and Doulgas Wentworth; seven great-grandchildren, Shane, Sara and Sierra Felker, Danielle and Alexandria Wentworth, Bradley Cabral and Kiera; several nieces and nephews; and by her sister, Nellie Brazier of Ripley, Maine. At her request, there will not be a visitation or funeral service. A graveside committal will be held at a later date.
