NEWPORT - Pauline "Polly" Staples, 92, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021. She was born in Kenduskeag the youngest of six children of Amos and Eliza "Jane" (Nichols) Adams. Polly was a strong woman, leaving the farm at 13 to pursue an education. She married Robert Staples and lived most of their married life in Dexter. Among her varied career choices were bookkeeper for her husband's business, Staples Trucking, as well as running accounts receivable for Abbot Mills, and then Dexter Shoe. She finished her working career as a cashier at Bud's in Dexter. After retirement, she and Bob ran the Dexter Food Pantry, traveled extensively, and wintered a few times in Florida, where she became a loyal Red Sox rooter and later, Celtics fan. She and Bob loved square dancing, playing cards, and visiting all her friends wherever they lived. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Clarke, husband, Bruce and their children, Scott and wife, Shelby, Emery, Shawn and wife, Lynne, Masterson, and Jason and wife, Heidi Clarke; and son, Bob Staples II and wife, Shannon, and their children, Chad Staples, Tyler Staples, and Brett Staples. She is also survived by Terry's children, Mindy and husband Chris McInnis, and Tim and wife, Rachel Estes. She also leaves behind several beloved great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob; son, Terry Stewart; great-granddaughter, Meghan Plunkett; and all her siblings and several nephews and nieces. A graveside funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
