CARMEL--Paula Jean (Chabot) Nelson, 67, passed away on May 22, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Paula was born in Dexter on January 27, 1954, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Sevey) Chabot. Paula was a 1972 graduate of Dexter Regional High School. She attended the University of Maine Farmington, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach for 39 years in the Newport School District before retiring in 2015. She had a love of teaching and touched the lives of many over the years. Paula loved baking and was known for her delicious peanut butter fudge at family gatherings. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers through the summers, as well as crocheting and knitting mittens, socks, and stuffed animals for her grandchildren. Most of all, Paula loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Paula was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward “Eddie” and Alberta “Bert” (Nye) Nelson; her sister-in-law, Diana (Nelson) Berube; brother-in-law, Stanley Berube; and a very special aunt, Resa Sevey. Paula is survived by her loving husband of more than 44 years, Reginald “Reggie” Nelson of Carmel; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Nelson Russell and Adam Russell of Newport; two grandchildren, Owen and Madelynn Russell; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Norma Chabot of Ripley; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Jeffrey Ulrich of Hermon; brother-in-law, Ronnie Nelson of Corinna; nephews, Shawn Chabot and wife Carol of Portland, David Chabot and wife Heather of Littleton, Colorado, Tim Ulrich and wife Lisa of Lyndonville, Vermont, and Mike Ulrich of Old Town; and a niece, Sandra Fletcher and husband Bill of Falmouth; great nieces and nephews, Shawn Michael Chabot, Grace and Colin Ulrich, and Katie, Anna, and Grace Fletcher. Paula was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her family. She was known by many for her kind heart. Graveside services will be announced at a later date. Arrrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to Sarah's House of Maine, 346 Main Road, Holden, ME 04429.
