DEXTER - Cecil Leroy Reed, 83, was born July 12, 1937, in Blanchard, Maine. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 7, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Portland after a brief illness. He was a graduate of Dexter High School, class of 1956. Cecil worked for many years at Dexter Shoe Company as a cutter and after retirement, worked at Walmart in Palmyra. He was a friendly greeter who was loved by both co-workers and customers. He married Lois I. Worster on May 2, 1970. They celebrated 50 years of marriage (COVID-style) in 2020. They have two daughters, Stacey and Susan, and two lovely granddaughters, Emily and Abigail. Cecil loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them on day trips, eating out, and celebrating holidays. He was a past member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was a lifetime member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International. Cecil studied piano, piano accordion, and Hammond organ. Loving the old hymns of the church, he was organist in many churches during his lifetime. At the time of his death, he was attending the Church of Faith in Skowhegan. He was an avid nature photographer, hiking fields and woods with his dog. He enjoyed doing genealogy, tracing his family roots from Wellington, Maine to Ireland and England. He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Dexter; his daughter, Susan Reed Page, of Dexter; his daughter, Stacey Reed Barker and her husband, Jeffrey, of New York; two granddaughters, Emily and Abigail Barker; his sister, Glenice Leavitt and her husband, Spencer Speed, of Arkansas; and several nephews, cousins, and their families. He will also be missed by his miniature schnauzer, Bam Bam. Cecil was predeceased by his mother, Marguerite Davis Hamilton; his stepfather, Allen "Iky" Hamilton; and his biological father, John R. Reed. In addition, he recently lost his beloved and special grand-dog, Maggie. At his request, a graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
