DEXTER and NEWINGTON, Conn. - Isabelle M. (Sands) Sampson, 89, of Newington, Conn., passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was the beloved wife of George W. Sampson for 66 years. Born and raised in Dexter, daughter of the late Carl and Julia (Clukey) Sands, she served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and graduated in the class of 1950 from University of Maine, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, before moving to Newington, Conn. in 1954. Isabelle was a member of St. Mary Church, Newington, Conn., and taught kindergarten at St. Mary School for 22 years. She was also a member of Newington Tennis Club and spent time volunteering at the town library. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves her six children, Gail Miller and husband, Dennis, of Enfield, Conn., Carl Sampson and wife, Melanie, of Enfield, Conn., Ralph Sampson and wife, Darcey, of Newington, Conn., Jill Sampson of Vienna, Lynn Martha and husband, Jay, of Cheshire, Conn., and Leigh McClain of Newington, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, Eric Miller and fiancée, Kara English, Chris Miller, Katherine Moreau and husband, Dave, Danielle Nastri and husband, Anthony, Matthew Sampson, Michael Sampson, Conal Sampson, Helena Sampson, Jennifer McCallum and husband, Pete, Grace Martha, Sam Martha, and Julia McClain; and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Evan and Olivia. She also leaves her brother, Galen Sands and wife, Mary; two sisters, Ruth Dow and Althea Goulette; sisters-in-law, Barbara Clukey, all of Dexter, Shirley Palmer of E. Longmeadow, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Everett, Merle and Ronnie. Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter, where her funeral service will begin 1 p.m. Saturday. She will be laid to rest at Ferndale Cemetery, Ripley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dexter Historical Society, 13 Church St., Dexter, ME 04930.
