Obituary
Pieter h. DeBeurs, 96, passed away peacefully at home October 30, 2020 after a long, productive life. He was predeceased by his wife, Fredrica W. DeBeurs, 89 on October 15, 2018. together they lived a loving, wonderful life. Both were born in the Netherlands and endured WWII and the Hunger Winter of 1944-45. They found each other on Sept. 4, 1949 and were married a year later on a cold, wet December day in 1950. A year later Anton(Tony) was born and four years later Ruth was born. Because of the housing shortage in Netherlands after the war, Piet and Freddie decided America was the place to be. With Ruth only 18 months old, they immigrated to the US and started a new life. With his masters degree in Physics, Dad was hired to help develop the world's first transistors at Transitron in Wakefield, Mass. Mom Loved books and worked at the public library. She also studied part-time many years, slowly working towards her Bachelor's and then master's degree in Library Science. Dad was an excellent problem solver and eventually went to to work for several suburban Boston companies in high voltage engineering and test equipment. When they retired, they came to Maine and set up a bookshop in Garland and then later in Belfast. For their remaining years, they could be seen buying and selling books, playing tennis, or just taking walks in search of the abundant beauty that Mom always seemed to notice. when not doing things together, Dad made model ships from photographs and mom kept the bookstore going, as well as gardening, knitting and crocheting. The love and joy they had to each other and for life endured to the very end and is a gift to us all. they leave behind son Tony DeBeurs and his wife, Cathy and step-granddaughter Allyson and her husband Adam Gudroe and great grandchildren Cally and Adalee step-granddaughter Angela and her husband Kevin Armstrong and great grandchildren Kevin and Adele; daughter Ruth Fogg and her husband Ron Apel and Grandchildren Rachel Kennett of Arizona and Raymond Kennett, and his wife Julie and great grandchildren Elise and Hugo of Colorado.
