Obituary
Thomas T. Cote April 16, 1943 - October 5, 2020 Facebook Twitter reddit TEXT SIZE A A A DEXTER - Thomas Timothy Cote, 77, died peacefully in his sleep on October 5, 2020, after a fight with Lewy Body Dementia that he battled courageously and with humor. He was born April 16, 1943, to Paul and Yvonne (St. Pierre) Cote in Augusta. He lived a life full of pride and love for his family, friends, and wonderful co-workers and was an active and respected member of the Dexter community. Tom graduated from Cony High School in 1961 and then entered the United States Army Reserves while he attended the University of Maine at Augusta. He was called to service in Vietnam in 1965 and was stationed at Sóc Trâng Air Base as an Aviation Electronic Repairman. He completed his service with the Army, achieving the rank of Specialist 4. Tom came to Dexter in the late 1960s and helped build Tom's Norge Village Laundromat & Dry Cleaners, which he owned for several years. He later sold the business and joined the team at Bud's Red & White (now Hannaford) where he worked in several positions. He was the Store Manager from 1991-2000. He retired from Bud's Shop 'n Save in 2016 after 41 years with the company. For many years, Tom proudly served as a board member on the Plummer Foundation - a philanthropic organization associated with the former Plummer Memorial Hospital that provides grants to enhance health initiatives in the local community. He was a member of the committee that constructed Dexter's original "Creative Playground" at Crosby Park and he took part in many community activities to support his children and their school, including helping to wire the old Dexter Middle School for internet capability and volunteering to support sporting events and fundraisers. He was passionate about baseball; a love he shared with his son Kurt. The two could often be found working on Kurt's curveball in the "Bud's Bullpen" during Tom's lunch and work breaks at the store. He was also an avid runner, a pastime he shared with his children. His daughter Kathy has especially fond memories of jogging with him at the Dexter Regional High School track. Tom's "tricks of the trade" were something that his children revered about him, such as teaching Gavin how to tie a tie and mow the lawn, or showing Sabrina how to perfect his signature peanut butter and banana sandwich and his running hook shot. They would wait for him to come home from work each night, ready to play a sport in the yard. His children were his pride and joy and he loved to talk about their athletic, academic, and work successes. Throughout his life he enjoyed trips with his family, hiking, kayaking, and camping adventures, and in retirement, visiting some of the country's most famous landmarks with Cindy, including The Grand Canyon and Washington, D.C. He also adored his dog, Riley, and was known for his obsession with keeping multiple flashlights in every room of the house. He was predeceased by his father Paul "Pepe" Cote and mother Yvonne Johnston. He is survived by his loving partner of 20 years, Cindy Thibodeau of Dexter; his beloved brother Richard Cote and wife Patricia of Greenville; his twins and their spouses: Kurt Cote and wife Kate of Falmouth, Maine; Kathy Ray and husband Frank of Somerville, Massachusetts; and their mother, Sandra of Pittsfield; his two younger children and their significant others, Sabrina Cote and Matt Fuller of Boston, Massachusetts; and Gavin Cote and Brooke Healey of Bristol, Connecticut and their mother Valerie Cote and her husband Richard Shea. He is also survived by three grandchildren Frankie Ray, and Andrew and Caroline Cote; his nieces and nephews Darlene Brushwein, Karen Cavanagh, Mark Cote, and Tony Cote. As well as the children of Cindy Thibodeau; Lisa Thibodeau; and Nick and Bobbie Thibodeau and their children Kylie, Cole, and Ian who held a special place in his life. A celebration of life for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
