Obituary
Mrs. Gertrude S. Farrar, 77, died en route to a Bangor hospital Sept. 29. She was born in Garland April 17, 1899 the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Bridges) Stone. She was the wife of the late J. Chester Farrar. Mrs. Farrar graduated from Farmington Normal School I 1918. She received a B.S. degree from the University of Maine in 1954. She taught for 40 years in Dover-Foxcroft, South Mills, Brans Mills, Ripley, and Dexter schools. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ripley, the Ripley Grange where she was a past secretary , the senior extension, the Ladies Aid at the Ripley Methodist Church and the National Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by a son, Rodney of Ripley; a daughter, Mrs. "Bud" (Virginia) Elms of Ripley; a brother Ernest Stone of Garland; a sister, Mrs, Renworth (Bernice) Hollis of Old Town; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were October 1 at the Ripley Methodist Church. Burial was in West Ripley Cemetery.
