Obituary	James M. Laughton, 68, died Feb. 20, at a Waterville hospital following a period of ill health. He was born at Ripley Feb. 19, 1907, the son of John S. and Mary E. (Merrill) Laughton. He had lived here for the past three years, previously residing in Ripley, where he operated a large dairy farm. In Ripley he was active I town affairs and served as selectman for several years. He was office manager for J.R. Cianchette and had been employed by the state HIghway Department. He attended Colby College and served four terms in the state legislature. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cambridge and a 25-year member of the Ripley Grange. He is survived by his wife Sylvia ( Kirkpatrick) Laughton of Newport; three brothers, John N, of Ripley, Edward L. of Hartland, Andrew M. of Bourne, Mass.; four sisters, Mrs. Rena F. Eaton of Durham, NH., Mrs.Adelma D. Sevey, and Mrs. Flora M. Britten, both of Ripley; Mrs. Susan H. Jewett of Hermon; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Feb, 23 at the Ripley Methodist Church.
