Obituary	GEORGE CARL BATES George Carl Bates, 67, died Tuesday noon at Togus Veterans' Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. at the Crosby Funeral Home. The Rev. Homer Hughey of the Newport Methodist Church will officiate. The American Legion Post will conduct a sevice. Burial is to be in the Higgins Cemetery. He was born in Corinna, Sept. 10, 1888, son of the late Charles and Emma Libby Bates. He received his education in the Dexter schools. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of Poulliot-Seavey Post No. 53, American Legion. For 32 years he was employed by S. L. Small and Son of Dexter, retiring several years ago. Besides his wife, Annie Mason Bates, of Lower Main street, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louise Sawtelle of Dexter; several nieces and nephews.
