Obituary
John Sherman Laughton, 97, Ripleys oldest citizen, died Wednesday at a Dexter nursing home. He was born at Ripley January 12, 1865, son of John N. and, Susan (Little) Laughton. He spent his entire life in Ripley. He served as chairman of the Board of Selectmen for 25 years, was superintendent of schools and taught in the Ripley-St. Albans area. He was a member of Ripley Grange. Surviving are five sons, John, James and Frank of Ripley, Edward of Hartland and Andrew of Bourne, Mass.; four daughters, Mrs. Rena Baton of Durham, N. H., Mrs. Adelma Sevey and Mrs. Flora Britten of Ripley and Mrs. Susan Jewett of Hermon; 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grand-children. Friends may call at the Crosby Funeral Home in Dexter Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Ripley Methodist Church, the Rev. Gordon V. Parlin officiating. Burial will be in the West Rip-Cemetery.
