Obituary
The many friends of Mrs. Ellen Louise Rand, wife of Joseph P. Rand, were grieved by her death, which occurred at the home on Free Street Saturday, after an illness of nine weeks. Mrs. Rand was born in Lancaster, N. H., April 17, 1896, coming in early life to Gardiner, where she received her education. As a young woman Mrs. Rand came to this town, where she was employed by the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. In 1915 she was united in marriage to Mr. Rand. Mrs. Rand was a woman with many friends, whose death is deeply regret¬ted. She was a member of the Wassookeag Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of the Boneka club and the La¬dies Aid society of the First Universalist church. She is survived by her husband and little son, Robert, her mother, two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were conducted from the First Universalist church Monday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. William Garner, officiating. The profusion of floral tributes bore silent testimony of the high esteem in which she was held by all who knew her. The bearers were: Charles E. Ansell, Frank H. Haines, Rufus Tillson and E. Clifford Call. Interment was made in Mount Pleasant cemetery.
