Obituary
DEXTER - James M. Wintle, 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2015. He was born October 31,1920 in Dexter, a son of Charles F. and Marion (Clukey) Wintle. He attended Dexter schools until the 11th grade when he went to work at Fay & Scott Machine Shop from 1946 to 1964. He later completed his GED. James met his soul mate and wife, Joyce E. McGowen in Corinna at a roller skating rink. They were married on December 7, 1942 and enjoyed 72 years together. He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1945 serving until 1946. They bought a farm in Ripley and started raising chickens. They moved to Dexter in 1959 purchasing a larger farm, added another barn and raised 25,000 layer hens. He also drove a school bus and worked at the Dexter Post Office. He had served on the Dexter Utility District Board and the Farmers Home Administration Board. He was a 49 year member of the First Free Baptist Church in Dexter and belonged to the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Exeter for 14 years. James enjoyed many hobbies including snowmobiling, metal detecting, string art, skiing, genealogy, "computering" and day trips. He especially enjoyed UPWORDS and delighted in coming up with the word that would give him a win. He was fondly known as "Dexters historian" writing 5 books on Dexter sports and a book of nicknames of Dexters residents. He greatly loved his family and looked forward to family parties, cook outs and the holidays. He is survived by his wife Joyce; a brother Robert Wintle of Dexter; 3 sons, Galen and wife Gayanne of Dexter, Calvin and wife Patti of Detroit, Frank and wife Ann Marie of Youngstown, NY; 3 daughters, Susan Packard and husband Norman of Garland, Sandra Blaney and husband Gene of Ripley, and Darlene King and husband Jack of Levant; grandchildren Scott, Mark, Stephen, David, Mike, Pamela Smith, Tonja Lary, Shawn Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Craig, April, Josh Wintle and James Ogden; 20 great grandchildren, l great great grandson; many nieces, nephews; and step grand and great grandchildren.He was predeceased by 6 brothers, Omar, who died as a toddler, Victor, Kenneth, Frederick, Francis and Roger; 4 sisters, Bernice Chambers, Evelyn Walker, Madelyn Bush, and Rebecca Parker; grandson Jason Ogden, great grandson Tyler Wintle and daughter in law, Lana Wintle.Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, March 31st, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with the Rev. Stan Griffin officiating. Friends may call from 10 A. M. until the time of services. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held at the church following the funeral. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, later in the spring.
