Obituary	DEXTER - Dean R. Thompson passed away September 12, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born March 27, 1929 in Machias, a son of Reynold and Statira Thompson. He attended Dexter schools, graduating from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1948 and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Dean attended Husson College and the Aetna School of Insurance in Boston. He returned to Dexter and entered his fathers business, Judkins Insurance, purchasing the firm upon his fathers retirement. He was a member of the Dexter JayCees and served on numerous community boards, including the Town Council for many years. He was a member of the Dexter Club for over 40 years and was a life member of Penobscot Lodge Masons. He and his wife Gwen also owned and operated an antique business. In his youth he was a hunter and fisherman but as he aged he became more of a lover and respecter of nature. His greatest pleasure was taking a cup of coffee, riding his truck into the field on his farm and watching deer and other wildlife that might appear. He is survived by his wife, Gwen (Haynes) Thompson; 2 daughters, Daphne and husband David Sanders, and Jan Nadeau; 5 grandchildren, Meena and Aaron Sanders, Abigail (Sanders) and husband Tom Hoke, Jeremy Nadeau and fiance Heather, and Jonathan Nadeau; and 1 great granddaughter, Hannah Chickadee Hoke. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and parents. While this provides an outline of a life well lived, for Dean it is not enough by half. He was honest, thoughtful, generous and irreverent at all of the right times and places. To know him, to be touched by his generosity wisdom and the example of his character, is to be blessed. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 16, at the Dexter Universalist Church, Church Street, Dexter, with the Rev. Ray Beless officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. A reception will be held at the Dexter Club following the interment. Memorial donations may be made to Sarahs House, P. 0.
