Obituary	DEXTER- Alta C. Carter, 84, died January 12, 2013 at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. Alta was born in Centerville, N.B. Canada on March 16, 1928, the youngest of eleven children and last surviving child of Frank and Mary (Peterson) Crouse. Alta worked for many years in area shoe factories until her retirement. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Dexter where she enjoyed being involved in church activities, bible studies at her home, and baking pies for church dinners in her younger years. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing; and working in her flower gardens. Alta and Ed enjoyed the summer months taking trips on their motorcycle. She is survived by her two daughters, Karan Sleight and Mary Kennedy and her partner Kevin Thibeault; a grandson, Troy Nightingale and his wife Sheri, and their sons. Brad, Tyler, Kyle, and Shawn; a granddaughter, Kim Polichak and her partner Joe Hanscom, and their children Carter, Trenton, and Tessa, all of Dexter; as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Maine. She will also be missed by her constant companion, her loving dog, Tessie. Alta was predeceased by her husband, Ed Carter of Dexter, in 1992. She was also predeceased by seven sisters, Kathryn Prosser, Idella Page, Teresa Staples, Inez Orser, Wyonita Hayward, Beatrice Giberson, and Lois Crouse; and three brothers, Gerald Crouse, Halton Crouse, and Clayton Crouse, all of Canada. Altas family would like to thank the staff at Hibbard Nursing Home for the excellent care and thoughtfulness they provided to her, doing everything in their power to make her comfortable during her stay. Funeral services were held January 16th at the New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Will Walters officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
