Obituary
The community was saddened on Nov. 26, to learn of the death of Reuben M. Lane, a live-long resident of Ripley, where he was born 72 years ago on Sept. 19, 1861. He was the youngest of sic children of Jeremiah and Mary Lane and was the last of that family. He died in the house where he was born and where he had always lived. As a young man he learned the carpenters trade but he was a farmer, working at his trade only when opportunity offered. On Feb.3, 1892, he married Miss Ada L. Curtis of Dexter, who survives him. He is also survived by two children Roy and Doris Lane both at home, and by a niece, Mrs. M. Marie Kimball of Ripley. Mr. Lane was at one time a member of Dexter Grange. His strongest traits were devotion to his home and family and a love for children everywhere. He was in failing health from heart trouble, for a long time. The last five months of his illness, he was in bed and everything possible was done by the family for his comfort. Though a great sufferer, he was especially cheerful through the long months if inactivity. Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30P.M. on Nov.28, Rev. W.J. Metz of the First Universalist church of Dexter, officiating. The bearers were Adrian Robinson and Walter N. Eaton of Dexter and Lamont and Chester Ellms of Ripley. Burial was in the Eastis extension of Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The beautiful flowers bore silent testimony from the many friends, old and young, who will miss him from the daily life of this community.
