Obituary
Mrs. Louisa Sampson died Saturday afternoon at the home in Ripley at the remarkable old age of nearly 98 years. She was born in Ripley 97 years ago last January. Before her marriage, she was Miss Louisa Lane a much beloved school teacher in her native town. Seventy-four years ago last January, on her 23d birthday, she was united in marriage with the late George R. Sampson, who lived until September of this year, thus maintaining a remarkable period of married life. Mrs. Sampson leaves three children: Mrs. Llewellyn Decker of Ripley, Mrs. Emma Henderson of Plymouth and Charles Sampson of St. Albans. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, also survive her. She was a Granger for 33 years, first joining Dexter Grange, then transferring to the Ripley Grange. For the past few years she had been an honorary member. Until the past six months she has been quite active, doing some housework and much sewing and reading. After a visit with relatives in Monson three weeks ago, she was taken ill and gradually lost strength. Up to the time of her death, her sight and hearing were only slightly defective. Two years ago a party was given in Mrs. Sampsons honor by Mrs. Laura Tibbetts of Dexter, at which three of her former pupils were present. They were 81,85, and 86 years of age respectively and the school they attended with Mrs. Sampson as teacher, was at Ripley Mills, 72 years previously, now 74 years ago. She sometimes had as many as fifty-two pupils, some of them only three years of age. It is with regret that many will hear of the death of this grand old lady, whom everybody loved. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the church in Ripley, Rev. E. Mercer of the Methodist church to which she belonged officiating.
