Obituary
Jesse M. Stone died at his home in St. Albans Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd, at the age of 87 years. Death was due to heart trouble. Mr. Stone was born in Ripley and was a son of the late Cyrus Stone and a grandson of the late Jesse and Lucy(Emery)Stone, who came to Ripley from Marlboro, N.H. and who were among Ripley earliest settlers. Mr. Stone was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Rand in early life, who passed away some years ago, and he leaves to mourn his death, two sons and a daughter; Elmer Stone, of Providence, R.I., William Stone of Boston and Mrs. Lizzie Cole with whom he lived, also an aged sister, Mrs. Anna Vining, besides other relatives, also many friends, who regret his death. He was an honored and respected citizen of St. Albans, a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting for 3 years in 1862, in the 20th Infantry Co.F., and as a member of the G.A.R. Post. The funeral services were held Saturday, July 25th at 10 a.m., at his late home and were conducted by Rev. Alexander Stuart, pastor of the M.E. church at Hartland and Vincent Goforth, funeral director at Hartland had of the arrangements. The bearers were M.H. Martin, Will Watson, Nathan Richards and Frank Hersey,and the abundance of beautiful flowers were fitting tributes to the dead. Among those present from out of town were: Elmer Stone and daughter, Mrs. Hazel Newcomb, of Providence, R.I. William Stone of Boston; Harry Prescott of Willimantic, and Mr. and Mrs. James Boynton of Dexter. The interment was in the Ripley cemetery.
