Obituary
The funeral services for Hazel M.(Jewett) Black, who died at the home of her parents, June 9th, at 2 P.M. Galen Ramsay of Deter had charge of the arrangements, and Rev. W H. Johnson pastor of the Baptist church of Dexter performed the last rites. The bearers were Albert Sevey, Jessed Skillings, Carleton Buchnam, Richard Ramsay, Vance and Daniel Wakefield. There were many beautiful floral offerings. Mrs. Black was born in Ripley, January 16th, 1909, the daughter of Gilman and Cora (Knowles) Jewett. She attended the public schools of Ripley and the N.H. Fay High School of Dexter. She was married on January 5, 1930 to William D. Black of Linden, Fla. After their marriage they went at once to Florida, where Mr. Black had employment, only arriving home for a few days before her death Besides her husband, she is survived by two step-children, Allena and Glorilea Black, her parents, and two brothers, Clayton and Clyde Jewett, of Ripley; three uncles John Jewett and George Knowles, of Ripley and Elwell Knowles, of Quaico, Va and two aunts, Mrs. Mary Nutter, of Ripley and Mrs. Myra Parker, of St. Albans, and also many cousins. It was thought that she had practically recovered from an attack of fever which she contracted in the south, when other complications set in, and she failed rapidly to the end. Mrs. Blacks death came as a complete shock to any friends. She will not only be greatly missed by her family, and friends in the north, but also by her many friends in the south who had grown to think so much of her.
