Obituary
Miss Melvina A. Lane of Ripley passed to a higher life Dec. 6th, 1928 at the home of her brothers wife, Mrs. John Lane, on the Cambridge road, with whom she had made her home for several years. Miss Lane was born in Ripley 77 years ago, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary Ann Lane, and was one of six children, only one of whom, a brother, Reuben Lane, of Ripley, survives. Miss Lane received her education in the Ripley schools and attended the Castine Normal school, after which she was a successful teacher for several years, and except for a few years in which she was employed in Boston, had lived in Ripley all her life. Miss Lane was a woman of sterling character, well versed in literature and her heart was filled with charity forward all. Besides her brother, she leaves to mourn her death, two nieces, Mrs. S.L. Warren, Rhode Island, Miss Doris Lane, and a nephew, Ray Lane of Ripley, to whom she as greatly attached. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Lane, Rev. W.H. Dunham of the Methodist church officiating. The beautiful flowers spoke in silent testimony of the esteem in which she was held by those who knew her best. Burial was in the Lane cemetery in Ripley. We will meet her in that angel throng Beside that golden gate, Amidst that angel crowd we see, We will neer forget her yet. She went, as went the light of day, All robed in glory round; Her master called and she must go Without a murmur or a sound. Her other friends had flown before The same as she had done, And so good-buy to her well say, Till earth and death are passed away.
