Obituary
Mrs. Carrie (Field) Additon of Ripley passed to the Great Beyond Nov. 15th. She was born in Benton, N.B. Aug. 18, 1854. While young she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Field to Dexter. Nov.27, 1871 she was married to Herbert Additon. The greater part of their married life was passed in Ripley. Five children blessed this union. Only two survive their mother, Mrs. Chas. Stone of Morris, N.Y. and Philip Additon of Ripley. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Additon continued living on the farm with her son and his wife, where she was most tenderly cared for. The deceaseds life was one of unselfishness and devotion to her family and friends. She was a brilliant, beautiful woman and possessed broad sympathies, ever ready to share her neighbors sorrows and lend the helping hand. She was endowed with a rare mind poetically inclined, often contributing lovely poems to our local papers She was a delightful companion, a cheerful conscientious and loyal friend. She leaves to mourn her death, besides her devoted son and daughter, three grandchildren, Miss Ethelyn Additon, Mrs. George Lewis of Dexter and Mrs. Arthur Hanson, of New York; also three brothers, Robert, George and Fred Field, and a host of friends, who extend great sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral services wee held at the house Friday morning at 10 oclock, Rev. W.H. Dunham officiating. The pastor with much feeling, the many flowers in their mute eloquence, the fond friends each in his own way, bespoke the universal respect and love that were hers. Interment was in the family lot Ferndale cemetery. Oh why do we call it death This beautiful, peaceful sleep When one enters the heavenly portal Where none ever waken to weep.
