Obituary
News of the death in Bridgewater of Mellen A Randall, formerly of Ripley was received here Friday and came as a shock to the many friends of the deceased in this and neighboring towns. It had not been known there that Mr. Randall was ill, although it was common knowledge among his friends that his heath has not been of the best since a severe attack of pneumonia last winter. The remains arrived here Saturday morning for the funeral and burial. Mr. Randall was the son of Alvin D. and Henrietta (Grant)Randall and was born 51 years ago last October on the farm in Ripley where his father and grandfather before him had lived and where the greatest part of his life was passed and which is still the property of the family. He was known as a cattle and sheep buyer and for a long period traveled over this section of Maine, buying cattle and sheep for shipment to the Brighton market. Several years ago he moved to Bridgewater in Aroostook county, where he continued to the business of burying sheep and cattle and also engaged in the grocery and provision business. Besides his wife, who was Miss Estelle Crockett, he leaves two sons, Alvin and Daniel Randall of Bridgewater. The deceased was a member of the Masonic orders, being a member of Cambridge lodge of Masons and of St. Johns Royal Arch Chapter of this town and Cambridge grange. Funeral services were conducted fro the Universalist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. B.F. McIntire officiating. The ritual services of the Masonic order were carried out by Cambridge lodge, F. and A. M. A large number of members of the Cambridge lodge attended the services also a good delegation of members of the Penobscot lodge, F. and A.M. of this town. The bearers were Ernest D. Blasdell and Bradley Labree, representing St John Royal Arch Chapter of this town and Stanwood Mower, Andrew Bailey, Mr. Eldridge and Everett Austin representing Cambridge lodge, F. and A. M. The services were attended by many friends and former neighbors of the deceased and there was a profusion of floral tributes from family and friends in Bridgewater, Ripley, Cambridge and Dexter. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Huff of Skowhegan, C.J. Hanson and O.E. Blackden of Presque Isle. The remains were placed in the receiving tomb at Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
