Obituary
GEORGE FITZGERALD 1804 - 1858 George Fitzgerald came to Dexter at some time previous to the year 1837, since in that year he was elected town clerk. He was a machinist by trade and the first to take up that branch of business in Dexter. He was a prominent Mason and did much for the upbuilding of Free Masonry in this community. Mr. Fitzgerald married Eunice W. Hook and they had seven children. George and Eunice Fitzgerald and two children who died in infancy are buried at Elmwood cemetery. He died January 1, 1858 and she died August 5, 1866. Three sons, Charles, George, Francis and Joseph H. learned the machinists trade and were for a time associated with their father. Later Charles went to Pittsburg and still later George F. went to California where he spent several years returning to Dexer in 1882. Removed to Oakland in 1887.
