Obituary
Mrs. Martha (Merriman) Peakes, whose death occurred at the home of her , Mrs. Lois Woodcock, in Ripley, Sunday night, January 14, was born in St. Albans and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hannah (Rollins) Merriman and most of her life has been passed in this town. Mrs. Peakes was educated in the public schools. Se was united in marriage to Alfred Peaks, now deceased, and to them was born four children, Benjamin A Peakes of Dover, Lois Woodcock of Ripley, Thomas Peakes, who is employed as a clerk at the Hotel Altastar, St. Augustine, Florida, and John Peakes who is attending a law school in Massachusetts, all of whom were present at the last rites. Mrs. Peakes is also survived by three sister, Mrs. Rose Merriman of Florida Mrs. Thursa Foss of Harmony and Mrs. Belle Sinclair of Albert, Canada, besides other relatives. The funeral services were held in Ripley, Thursday, January 18, at 10 a.m. Rev. S.G. Spear of the First Universalist church of Dexter, officiating. Many gathered to show their regard for the one who had passed away and the abundance of beautiful flowers were silent tributes for the dead. The bearers were U.S. Parker, S.J. Parker, George and Charles Brown, and the interment was in in the Mallon cemetery. Mrs. Peakes was 64 years old.
