Obituary
The many friends of Rev. John Friend of Ripley will be pained to hear of his death which occurred June 12th in Kingsbury, where he was employed. No definite particulars concerning his death are known as yet. but as near as can be ascertained he died from hemorrhage caused by an injury received from a falling tree while at work in the woods. His body was brought to Ripley for burial. The funeral was held at the Christian Church, Rev. Wm. Lang officiating. None of his relatives were present, being scattered. and no one knowing where they were. Members of the W.C.T.U. and other friends brought may beautiful flowers as a token of their respect. He was interred in the cemetery at the Village. Owing to his appearance and the condition of his body, many that were at the funeral were not fully convinced of his death, and in the evening prominent citizens, , accompanied by the legal authorities, went to the yard and had the body disinterred. He was taken to the church and trusty men were left to watch over him; but at an early hour in the morning decomposition rapidly took place, which proved without further doubt that life was extinct, and he was quietly taken back to his last resting place. He leaves two children, two brothers, several nieces, and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss.
