Obituary
At his home in Ripley, after a trying illness of several months, Sewall Lane passed to the higher life Tuesday, May 31st, aged 69 years. With the exception of a few years, he had spent his lifetime in the same neighborhood, and consequently was well known in this vicinity. He will long be remembered as a man proved worthy in the many relations of life. The comfortable home, the smooth and well-tilled fields bear ample witness to his thrift and industry. He was a great lover of nature and natures works and never was more happy than when increasing the fertility and beauty of his farm. As a neighbor he was ever considerate and kind. As a citizen he was true and upright in all his dealings. His word was as good as a bond. Being a discriminating as well as an extensive reader he was well posted on current topics of the day. He took a large interest in public affairs and was a staunch republican in his political faith. He was always an earnest student of the Bible and thoughtful on religious questions. His faith in the goodness and love of God was firm and abiding. However it was in his home that he appeared at his best. The widow will have the tender memory of an affectionate and faithful companion, and the five children of a devoted and loving father. May the consolation of Christian hope and trust be with those who mourn.
