Obituary
Jeremiah B. Lane, after an illness of about three months passed peacefully away at his home in Ripley Friday just before noon, March 29, aged 84 years and 8 days. Mr. Lane was born in Vienna, Kennebec C. March 21, 1817.His parents were John and Lydia Beede Lane. He was the oldest of a family of five children all of whom are deceased. In 1835 he moved with his family to Ripley to the place where he has since resided. It can be truly said that a good man has gone. He has lived long and has set an example of an honest, upright life. By industry and hard work he had made for himself a comfortable home. He was a kind husband and father, a pleasant and obliging neighbor and possessing as he did a kindly and generous disposition, always ready to lend a helping hand he will be held in grateful rememberce by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Having retained his mental faculties to the last his good judgement and wise counsel were highly prized and will be greatly missed in the home that is now desolate. His wife with whom he had lived 54 years passed away Jan. 30, 1899. He leaves four children, three sons and one daughter, two daughters having preceded him to the other life. Lydia F., Aug. 20 1890 and Minnie L. Jan 11, 1899. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon, March 31 attended by Rev. W.H. Gould of Dexter.
