Obituary
Mrs. Kohl Found Dead After Week Mrs. Edna (Brett) Kohl, 70, was found dead at about 11 o'clock yesterday (Wed.) morning in her small home at the corner of Oak street and Prospect street extension by Police Officer Relsie Curtis and Harold Sawyer who assisted in breaking open the locked door. They were accompanied by Mrs. Frank Carsley of Bryant road, who is connected with Mrs. Kohl through marriage. The frozen body was lying on the kitchen floor where she apparently fell when stricken. Officer Curtis summoned Dr. H. Lewis Taylor, medical examiner; Chief Police Harold Knox and C. F. D. Marsh, health officer. It is thought that the woman had been dead several days as the morning paper of Jan. 26 was inside on a chair, but the 27th, 28th and 29th editions were still outside the looked door in a box. The fuel in an oil burner had been completely used. Dr. Taylor, medical examiner, said the woman apparently died of natural causes. A neighbor, Mrs. Nancy Ellms, called at the Kohl home last Friday evening during the Mothers' March for the polio fund but did not get any response to her knock. She noticed the path had not been shovelled but it was not until yesterday morning that she again recalled the closed appearance of the home and decided to notify Mrs. Carsley, who investigated, found all the doors locked and noticed plants in the window were frozen, so she immediately notified the police. Mrs. Kohl was born in North Dexter, the youngest daughter of Orin and Phoebe Brett. She lived there until a young woman then went to New York State, where she remained for a number of years. About 25 years ago she returned to Dexter and has since been employed doing housework for many of the local families. She is survived by one nephew, Fred Carsley of Newport; and two nieces, Mrs. Frank Fortier of St. Petersburg, Fla,, and Dexter Dr. Elsie Carsley of St. Petersburg. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. at the Crosby Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the spring.
