DEXTER and GARLAND – Chester “Chet” Hartford, 88, died November 21, 2012 at a Dexter healthcare facility. He was born February 3, 1924 in Dexter, a son of Chester L. and Georgieanna (LaBree) Hartford. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1942 and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Chet worked for W. H. Butterfield and later at R.C. Whitney for 30 years, installing heating systems and gas stations. He served on the Dexter Water Board (Dexter Utility District) for many years. He was a charter member and past president of the Dexter JayCees. Chet was a longtime member of the Dexter Fire Department, a member of the Cardinal Mercier Post, Knights of Columbus, a past director of the Dexter Credit Union, and owned Chet’s Market on Lower Main Street in Dexter for 13 years. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of The Snows Parish. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Coro) Hartford of Garland; 3 daughters, Karen and husband Norman White of Durham, Mary Ellen and husband Donald Hill of California, Patricia Brawn of Dexter; 3 sons, Richard and wife Donna of South Carolina, Dale and wife Cheryl of Newport, and Tom and wife Robin of Dexter; a brother Ronald and wife Doris of North Dexter; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 4 stepchildren, Shelly Wild of FL, Scott Bryson of CA, Michael Bryson of Corinna, and Cindy Bradbury of Auburn; 8 stepgrandchildren. Graveside committal prayers will be held 10 A.M. Tuesday, November 27th at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter.
