DOUGLAS A. GILBERT DEXTER - Douglas Ambrose Gilbert, 86, died February 19, 2010 at a Dexter healthcare facility. He was born February 23, 1923 in Dexter a son of Reginald and Ellen (Ambrose) Gilbert. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. After returning to Dexter Doug worked at the Crosby Funeral Home. He also helped with the ambulance service and also at E. L. Crosby and Sons Western Auto store for 11 years. He retired as general manager of Dexter Shoe Company after 30รท years, retiring in 1986. Doug was a communicant of St. Annes Catholic Church in Dexter and was active in a number of church offices and activities. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Cardinal Mercier Post Knights of Columbus. After retiring Doug remained active in town affairs and served as a member of the Board of Directors of HAD #4 (Mayo Hospital). Doug is survived by his wife of 63 years, Theresa (Genest) Gilbert of Dexter; a daughter, Linda Reardon of Orrington; 2 sons-in-law, Everett Hibbard of Ripley and Bill Reardon of Orrington; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Joanne Hibbard, and 2 brothers, Roger and Robert Gilbert. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, February 22nd, with the Rev. Fr. Mark Nolette officiating at St. Annes Catholic Church in Dexter. Spring committal services will be held 11 AM Friday, May 21st, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
